Mad Hungry with Lucinda Scala Quinn

Recipes From Today's Show: Christmas Eve Dinner Menu

Posted by

TODAY on MHTV: A lot of my family memories center around food, especially at Christmas time. My brother David is here to help me make a Scala family classic—beef braciola. Don’t know what braciola is? It’s thin slices of beef, seasoned with breadcrumbs and parmesan, then rolled into little bundles and tied with string. From there, the meat is pan-fried in its own juices and left to simmer in a delicious tomato sauce. I’m using the sauce from the braciola to toss with homemade gnocchi—it’s easier to make than regular pasta—with broccoli rabe on the side. Since it’s Christmas, I’m making a special and elegant dessert of salted-roasted pears with caramel sauce. More from the show.

  • I LOVE your shows and while the media is blasting you, Martha, and Hallmark Channel, TONS of us never miss your shows. Fight to keep them...worst case scenario, please make available for sale all the Mad Hungry and Martha's Kitchen shows on DVD. I'll buy them all!

  • I just wanted to say I loved your holiday dinner show with the standing rib roast. I am hosting a New Years Eve dinner and I can not wait to serve some of your specialties.
I really like how your whole family was involved. Have a great holiday season!

    Sincerely,

    Brigid Sciaccotta

  • That standing rib roast was enticing enough to try for New Year's dinner and I am sure Jesse would eat it all.

Where's Luca? I thought he was going to learn to cook?

    Happy Holidays

  • I too love Lucinda's Mad Hungry show. I've been married 53 years and have been pretty tired of cooking! Watching Mad Hungry has me excited again about cooking. Thank You. Keep it up.

  • Can't wait to make this menu! I Dvr MH everyday and enjoy watching them when I get my only 'me' time...up feeding my newborn in the middle of the night :)

    Keep them coming!

*Love seeing Miles and Calder on the show with you - you can tell they LOVE their mama and cooking. Great fun!

  • I also grew up eating braciole and homemade gnocchi, and can't wait to try your versions! Can you tell me, please, the brand-name of the cream-colored pan you used to cook the braciole? I would like to add it to my Wish List for the holidays.

Love the show very much; it's an everyday DVR addition for me; and your family members and friends are terrific too, Lucinda!

  • Thanks for the braciole recipe, my aunt makes this at Christmas too,it's one of my favorite dishes. I'm hoping I can gather up the courage to try and make this, it's always sounded so complicated and my aunt won't give up her recipe so I'm going to try it your way.

I too agree with the post from Karen I would love to be able to purchase a Mad Hungry DVD set. I don't get the Hallmark channel so the only way for me to watch is on the internet, which is better than not seeing it at all. Please keep the great recipes coming they are so appreciated you're one inspiring lady!

  • This fall when your show came on the Hallmark channel I was home sick from work, but I perked right up when I saw your show! When I felt better, I had to go out and get a copy of Mad Hungry. The first thing I tried was your pan fried steak and wowie wow, what a hit it was! I just want to thank you Lucinda for all your inspiring recipes and cooking tips. I am a more confident cook these days because of you. And yes Mad Hungry DVD's would be great! Blessings, Robie from Tacoma,Washington

  • I just love Lucinda's show. It is very well done. I look forward to it every day.

  • I've been a big fan of Lucinda's since I started watching Everyday Food on PBS. I've stopped watching several of the cooking shows I used to watch prior to Mad Hungry. I hope they keep new episodes coming.

  • i REALLY ENJOY WATCHING YOUR SHOW, AND EMERILS TABLE. i HAVE TRIED ALOT OF YOUR RECIPES, AND THEY HAVE BEEN JUST GREAT. i USED TO WATCH fOODNETWORK, BUT LATELY THEY ARE ALL REPEATS, AND i THINK THEY CARE MORE ABOUT HOW FAMOUS THEY ARE THAN COOKING

  • When will there be new episodes of Mad Hungry?

    Thanks,
    Geri

  • Lo,

How is Lucinda? Will there be an eventual update on the status of Mad Hungry? We've all posted numerous questions on things and nothing has been answered. I hope someone associated with the show will go back and answer them all. It would also be nice to hear that the show will be back making new episodes. Happy holidays to you.

    Taylor

  • how do you reheat the braciola. i would like to serve it for Chreistmas....making it a day or two before thank you!
