South Beach and Snowbirds

Posted by

I'm being a snowbird for the week.

But I'm WORKING. Am heading to Miami Beach today to attend SOBE with Martha and my food colleague Sarah Carey. We'll be doing a demo on Saturday 2/23 to show some of the delicious recipes from the new Martha Stewart book, Meatless.

When I brought this book home to my meat-centric family I did not expect a ton of interest. My husband picked it up, started reading it--was enticed by the pictures and started naming all the things he was going to make. Now thats a testimonial! I can vouch for the recipes because most of them were created right under my nose at work in the kitchens of MSLO.

Our friend, Emeril Lagasse, has invited us to his Gardens to Glass party Friday night and knowing Martha,we'll get around to a lot of the happenings going on for this food festival (one of the best and most prestigious in the country).

But, in spite of all this fun stuff, I will miss my little 'ole home--cooking dinner with my family and loving the company of my boys. No matter what I am out doing for work, there is nothing that rivals the simplest pleasure of being at home around the dinner table with my family. I am not kidding! Anyone who has this opportunity to do so themselves, do not take it for granted.

Early Sunday morning I head to Philly and off to QVC for the launch of Mad Hungry Cravings and my first Mad Hungry "favorite tool" offering--the spurtles!!

SO I have to make sure to rested, hydrated and energetic while hanging out in the pleasure palace of South Beach Florida.

Lets see how that goes!

Best,

With a mix of a wooden spoon and a spatula, my Spurtle helps me get breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the table. It's an extension of my arm!

The Little Spurt is great for softening butter, spreading frosting on cupcakes, or making salsas (like I'm doing here).

Mad Hungry Cravings: Cook The Food You CRAVE

6 Mad Hungry Cravings: Cook The Food You CRAVE

It has been a really busy time lately getting ready for my book launch. Like most of you--my days are a crazy patch work of activities surrounding family, work and--friends (need more of that time!).

I really love blogging regularly, but--I know, I know--why don't I do it MORE.  In fact, writing, in general, is a true pleasure for me. So I will try to do more here.

Aside from the words, I've been focusing on creating some of my favorite tools etc. into a Mad Hungry collection of  "favorite things to use in the kitchen".

So it makes me really happy to have the opportunity to sell my very first product exclusively on QVC along with my new book Mad Hungry Cravings THIS Sunday 2/24 at 1:00PM EST on QVC.

This means the book can be had one full month ahead of the official publishing date! It's filled with all of the recipes you crave-- Sesame Chicken, Boston Cream Pie, Philly Cheese Steaks, Pad Thai, Mac and Cheese, Wings, Burgers, Hot Fudge Sundaes, Fettuccine Alfredo, Pulled Pork-- well, you get the picture.

For anyone who has watched the Mad Hungry TV show, you know that I am constantly grabbing and using my Spurtle in the kitchen. AND, I have received hundreds of inquires about what the tool is and where it can be found!

Well now I have an answer: I've worked hard at making the best Spurtle and the official Mad Hungry Spurtle can ONLY be found on QVC This Sunday at 1PM.

This phenomenal utensil is actually a very old tool--made originally for stirring porridge in Scotland. I think of it as a cross in between a wooden spoon and a spatula. It is a heritage tool that can be passed on from generation to generation. What's old is new again. This is not you grandmothers wooden spoon, however!

Ours is made from bamboo--the 'greenest' of all woods.  It grows wild like a weed, is hard, durable, and does not retain odors. We'll be offering two sizes: the Spurtle and little Spurt.

Using the gentle smooth edge of wood means you will not scratch your pans either. Watching friends and family scrape away with metal tools in their nonstick or enameled cast iron pans, causing scratches and chips, just floors me. And, ditto for rubber or silicone which can melt-- and well, who knows what is inside there and how safe it is for our family?

Here at my home, anyone who sees my Spurtles wants one, which means it will make an awesome gift for the cook in your life.

If we are successful with our Spurtles, then we will be able to offer all the other great items I'm working on now. SO please tune in, call in to say "hi" and show your Mad Hungry support! Tell friends and family too: This Sunday, February 24th at 1PM EST on QVC: In The Kitchen with David.

With the launch of the book comes a very exciting tour that I kick off in early March. I'll be doing demos, cooking classes, talks, book signings, etc. all across the country and what I'd love most is to meet all of my Mad Hungry fans-- I have been overwhelmed with the dedication and love you have shown to Mad Hungry and would like to put faces to names, so to speak.  Check back next week when I'll officially announce the tour dates and cities.

Remember, cook for the ones you love, teach them to cook for themselves and they will pass it on.

Best,
LSQ

For those of you that have spurtles, tell us why you love it now through Sunday on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram: @madhungrylsq with the hastag #qvcspurtlemania.

Super Bowl Food Controversy

RIBS VS WINGS

So, my husband RJQ, made a definitive decision: the Super Bowl menu hinges around his Crunchy Sesame Chicken Wings and my Carnita’s. To round everything off—I’ll make a #makeitepic dip — a new one, as yet undeveloped or untested, but sure to be something epic..

But, the best laid plans....

Our eldest son called to announce he’d be bringing friends and seven pounds of ribs and beef tips to our house for Super Bowl. His intention is to fire up our trusty Big Green Egg and let the bbq meat flow.

I thought this’d be cool with all, but it seems there might be a bit of a meaty turf war brewing over this.

Me? I’m Switzerland with my dip so no worries there. I'll be keeping folks posted via my Facebook and Instagram, so check back there on game day for live updates.

Watch Now: Fowl on the Play

Hi Folks,

As you probably know, ONE week from now is the biggest tailgating/beerbecueing/football-frenzied game grub day of the year: the superbowl! I'm not a huge fan of specific teams, perse, but for those of you that have followed this blog in years past (I'm talking about you Game Grub Bowlers!), you know that I am all about the food.

Watch Now: It's All About the Spread

This year, I'm excited to be able to participate in Visa's #MakeitEpic campaign for Superbowl XLVII. I had a lot of fun being in two videos a few months ago with some other familiar faces on all the important things about the game: epic eats. Check them out for a laugh and some good pointers for what to do and not to do for your superbowl spread.

Visa's offering epic offers and experiences that are bringing football fans even closer to all the action; follow them on Facebook and Twitter to stay in the game and in the know. All you have to do is let them know how YOU will make this superbowl epic: Tweet @Visa #makeitepic with the deets on how you're making your superbowl the best ever to have a daily chance to win one of five $50 Visa gift cards (until 2/3).

Get in the Game and #MakeItEpic this Superbowl!

Best,
LSQ

I am blogging on behalf of the Visa Make it Epic campaign and receive compensation for my time, but the thoughts, words, and promotions on this page are mine, not Visa's.
